Salvation Through My Sighs

Salvation Through My Sighs. 10 inches x 20 inches. Acrylic on canvas. 2011. Sold.

How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever?
How long will you hide your face from me?
How long must I wrestle with my thoughts
and day after day have sorrow in my heart?
How long will my enemy triumph over me?

Look on me and answer, Lord my God.
Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death,

and my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,”
and my foes will rejoice when I fall.

But I trust in your unfailing love;
my heart rejoices in your salvation.
I will sing the Lord’s praise,
for he has been good to me.

- Psalm 12

Wisdom is there for those who love and seek her

"Wisdom is radiant and unfading, and she is easily discerned by those who love her, and is found by those who seek her. She hastens to make herself known to those who desire her. One who rises early to seek her will have no difficulty, for she will be found sitting at the gate. To fix one's thought on her is perfect understanding, and one who is vigilant on her account will soon be free from care, because she goes about seeking those worthy of her, and she graciously appears to them in their paths, and meets them in every thought."

- Wisdom, 6:12-16

Only God

Mystery. 14 inches x 10 inches. Acrylic on canvas. 2007.

The part about training for a 42 km race that I enjoy most is that I get to be outdoors. For me, it is such a blessing to feel God this close - to have my senses filled in praise of creation. To feel the touch of the sun's rays, the sight of the blue skies and the scent of the salty seas is a gift to be treasured. It is a gift to be received over and over again, which only our God of Abundance can give.

I had been hesitating about running the marathon for 12 years. 2007 was when I decided to commit. It such a wonderful feeling to have allowed a personally significant undertaking to come to pass. This sense of closure is like a meeting of my different selves - the Fearful One and the Courageous One. Life presents this divide over and over again. In having run the race of my life, I am just that little bit stronger and wiser in choosing the better part.

42.195 km - being raised to be fiercely independent, I thought I could do it alone. Yeah, I did it with my own physical strength but later did I realise that a deeper significance comes from my sharing the journey. As I reveal myself - my anxieties, my doubts, - layer by layer, reaching more deeply into the soul to share my story, it becomes a shared story. And it takes a special friend who accepts me as I am, looking beyond and caring enough to spur me on. My greatness grows from your unconditional, Christ-inspired regard for me. It has added so much more joy and passion into the journey.

The marathon - the run of your life. It was no small question that needed to be answered as I considered taking on the challenge. I did. I did so in celebration of my God-given life. Every breath and every stride provided opportunities to look into the windows of my existence. And in the process I gained so much. I learnt that the strength I have within can only be of God.

Indeed, I am alive!
