Tears into Diamonds

Tears into Diamonds. 10 inches x 20 inches.
Acrylic on canvas. 2011. Sold.

"But every single tear I cry is a diamond in His hands
And every door that slams in my face, I will offer up in prayer.
So I'll give you every breath that I have
O Lord, you can work miracles
All that you need is my "Amen"".

- Five Loaves and Two Fishes by Corrinne May.

Knock

 Knock.

"Knock, and it shall be opened unto you." - Matthew 7:7.

La Foresta

La Foresta. 36 inches x 18 inches. Acrylic on canvas. 2011.

La Foresta is one of four sanctuaries (including Poggio Bostone, Greccio and Fonte Colombo) in the Rieti Valley, Italy where St Francis of Assisi spent much time in prayer.

La Foresta was my favourite, perhaps because it was a cheerful, sunny morning when I visited in April; hence my take of the place with these colourful rooftops.

Grace History

By grace, we have been made whole. By grace, we have been grace-filled. By grace, we will be graceful.

Father, Son and Holy Spirit

Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
40 cm x 120 cm (3 panels). Acrylic on canvas. 2011.

God from above, in the brilliance of yellow. Jesus walked on earth, as signified by brown. And the Holy Spirit in the centre of our lives, a fiery red. The Three are One, and One in Three; flowing into each other in perfect union.

Eremo delle Carceri

Eremo delle Carceri.
18 inches x 24 inches. Acrylic on canvas. 2011.
Not for sale. Private collection.

Eremo delle Carceri is a hermitage in Assisi, Italy - it is where St Francis of Assisi retreated to for quiet time. The painting is an interpretation of a photograph I took when I visited Carceri in April.

Doorways are an invitation to enter where I have not entered, to see what I have not seen, and most of all, to meet the Lord.

Francis and the Durian

Francis and the Durian.
36 inches x 36 inches. Acrylic on canvas. 2011.
Not for sale.

Francis is seated in a position of prayer and openness: to some, durians are thorny, stinky and not to be appreciated, but this is the external (the darker left hand side with more thorns); Francis, however, sees all with eyes of love, hence even durians are nourishment and pleasure (the lighter yellowish-green side with lesser thorns), and this is internal. And so, he embraces the fruit with both hands.

For us, externals may not always seem to be what it is - we have got to look inside - that's where pure love and goodness is; and that's what Francis is reminding us to do - to love Love.

To some, he looks sad. To me, he is quietly contemplating.
